Science

The proposed project will for the first time characterize the total molecular profiles in a large cohort of treatment naïve patients at the time of disease onset

Whereas the foremost contribution to translational research in IBD during the last decades has been based on efficacy of treatment and early treatment, research on early diagnosis and prognosis has been lagging behind. The proposed project will for the first time characterize the total molecular profiles in a large cohort of treatment naïve patients at the time of disease onset. Global analysis of DNA, methylation status of DNA, RNA expression, protein expression and microbial content of the intestines will yield the by far most detailed molecular analysis available and at the same time performed in the yet largest assembled cohort of treatment naïve patients together with relevant controls.
